Smithtown Festival Day
June 6, 2011
Cactus Salon Rocks!! Thank you to Fred Mattera and the whole team at Cactus Salon, Main Street Smithtown for a day of haircuts benefiting our foundation!
The foundation sponsored "Smithtown Residents for a Safer Main Street", a group of concerned citizens discussing ideas about how to make Main Street in Smithtown safer for pedestrians. By working with local, county and state officials, we believe positive changes to the road design can be made to prevent future injuries and deaths. The group also promotes safe driving and pedestrian behaviors. For more information about the problems in this area, and for progress updates, go to A Safer Main Street page on this site.
On Festival Day we started a petition for short- and long-term solutions to improve pedestrian safety. Over 1,400 concerned citizens signed the petition on this day alone. Since then over 2,700 signatures have been collected on paper and on-line. To sign the petition today, click here and let your voice be heard!
Thank you Cactus Salon, Napper Tandy's, Smithtown Center for Performing Arts, and all the volunteers for collecting signatures! Thank you to Mark Mancini, Barbara Franco and the Chamber of Commerce for making this such a great event and for letting us be a part of it! Thank you to our neighbor booth Coldwell Banker for your help and support!
Thank you Kathy Bottner from SafeKids.org who volunteered all day long to teach children about how to walk safely at a crosswalk, and help parents learn about using carseats safely! What an education!!
Thank you to ALL OF THE VOLUNTEERS who worked so hard to prepare for and carry out this event! What a team!!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by and purchased a wristband, keychain or guitar pick or simply donated to the foundation. It was wonderful to visit with so many supporters and friends! Without you we couldn't do what we're doing.

Thank you for the generosity, love, friendship and support of all those who came out to remember Courtney, donate to the foundation, volunteer and participate in the event, and support us by your love and friendship! What a kickoff for the foundation!
This was an incredible effort of love and compassion by Mary Ellen Mattina and Mike Devine from Cornet Music, Donal Stapleton, Owner of Napper Tandy's, Fred Mattera of Cactus Salon, and many others who planned and organized this event during the annual Smithtown Festival Day. Mary Ellen and Mike, without you this wouldn't have happened, and without your hard work it wouldn't have been such a success! Thank you always.

GARRETT’S TRIBUTE VIDEO
This video was compiled by Garrett Powers, a dear friend of our Courtney's. Garrett was our next door neighbor in Texas. He and Courtney were born within 3 months of each other. This touching tribute is something we will always cherish, along with our love and friendship with Garrett and his family.
Thank you Garrett.
